Constant element in the process of Brazilian cities development, vacant land integrates a specific scenario of inequality: in one hand, well-served areas without use; on the other hand, areas lacking basic infrastructure occupied by the low-income population. This reality relates to the tendency of urban sprawl, which opposes sustainable development. Aiming the compliance with the social function of the property foreseen by the Brazilian Constitution, this research aims to substantiate and propose perspectives of occupation for the vacant land in the Structural Sectors of Curitiba, Paraná. These sectors are the ones with greatest constructive potential in the city, considered in the Master Plan as the main growth and densification axes. Such potential is far from being achieved, especially in the Northern Structural Sector, where large idle areas are evident. Out of this analysis detailing, proposals are simulated aiming at the application of the compact city paradigm and the concept of Transit-Oriented Development (TOD).
