This research has as its theme the free spaces for public use, focusing on the spaces for play and its role in the development of childhood, without socio-cultural improvement and in the construction of inclusive cities, welcoming and with potential for the complete cycle of urban living. Perform a critical analysis of free spaces for social practices, having as a way to recover the Regional Grande Ibes, municipality of Vila Velha-ES, in order to verify how these spaces are including contemporary childhoods. It is an applied research, with a quantitative and qualitative approach, developed in four methodological steps: Contextualization of the theme; Study of representative projects; Identification and mapping of free spaces for play and, finally, to analyze the play spaces of the Regional Grande Ibes. After the bibliographic survey and mapping of the squares, there was a study for the adequacy of the indicators of the Walking Index tool (iCam), which were organized into 4 categories, respectively: Protection and Safety; Comfort and Image; Accessories and Connections; and Sociability, Uses and Activities. The results help to better understand the interface between contemporary cities and the city, as well as the mapped areas that are displayed with a new look aimed at meeting the real needs of children.
