Ícaro de Castro Mello was hired in 1958 to design the facilities of Maringá Country Club in the recently colonized northern region of Paraná state. The economic prosperity arising from coffee-growing backed the local society’s desire for an image of modernity and progress. The design elaborated by the architect contemplated autonomous buildings of varied forms, in consonance with the general panorama of the Brazilian modernist architecture, based on the carioca school. Partially executed, this design was reprocessed in 1962 by the same architect. In its second version, the exploration of structure, materials and constructive technique was predominant. There is an alignment with the ideas of the São Paulo school, latent in the post Brasilia scenario. Questioning the adaptations between these two project versions, this work concludes that the modern image was present in those projects, although there has been a simplification in the program, in the form, structure, materials and techniques used.
