At the present time the reframing of the student background is one of the challenges of the beginning of the Architecture and Urbanism Course (AUC). This paper presents the experience of the Integrated Project (IP) of the first semester of CAU-UFRN/Brazil, conducted by the discipline ‘Space and Shape 01’. It refers to the elaboration, in full-scale, ephemeral sensorial installations, understood as a means to integrate creative skills of students to their sensitive perception and to the (re)reading of the reality where they are inserted. In addition to contextualizing the discipline and the proposed exercise, the paper presents general aspects that characterize the six editions of the activity. The results show that most of the newly admitted approached the first design exercise by retracting situations from their daily life or by retrieving moments from the collective past, in a process of self-conscious about the social role of the designer.
