The article deals with how the physical environment where the teaching takes place, and in which the student spends much of his time, can contribute significantly to the improvement of knowledge production and student development. In order to have a well-planned school space, according to the needs of the children and their respective activities, the school architecture must work together with the pedagogy, follow the teaching method established by the school. In this research, the study was carried out in the Montessori Method, which focuses on the self-education and autonomy of the child with the observation and assistance of the teacher in the necessary moments, seeking to understand what are the guidelines for the design of school environments according to this method. Thus, its main objective was the creation of a framework of guidelines for school architecture projects that would adopt the Montessori method. As a methodology for this research, the bibliographical research was adopted, which sought theoretical references on: the context of early childhood education, the school space and the traditional teaching methods and Montessori. As a result of this research, the proposed framework of guidelines may be a guiding reference for professionals in the area of architecture, who work in the development of projects in school environments, based mainly on the Montessori method.
