The development of a project requires the designer to interpret data from the preliminary phase to the definition of the problem, so that a solution is developed, which will be the central idea of the project. The representation and development of this can be done through some tools such as freehand drawing, physical and digital models, prototypes or digital tools such as BIM (Building Information Modeling). The BIM technology currently used more emphatically in the design process, emerges as a development in the industry with the objective of visualizing, coordinating and simulating stages of project design, from the standpoint of architecture, engineering or construction. The methodology discussed with the use of the platform is guided by authors who discuss design processes, since it may or may not influence the moment of the project. In this way, the objective of this article is to understand how the guiding principles and the design constraints interfere in the design decisions, as well as to understand how the architects use BIM within the design process. Thus, in this text the VIA 57 West project was selected from the Bjarke Ingels Group office, the BIG, to be used as the object of study of this article. The research was based on the Content Analysis method (Bardin, 1977), with qualitative strategies of interpretation of the texts (interviews) already existing (published).
