University extension actions may involve activities with different themes that contribute to the formation of the urban architect. In this context, the present article presents the experience of the extension project, "Adopt a Home", an initiative of the Architecture and Urbanism course of the Vila Velha (UVV) University, which aims to offer free technical assistance to families living in areas of social interest, through improvements housing. This Technical Assistance in Housing of Social Interest (ATHIS) is carried out by a team composed of professors architects and engineers and undergraduate students and volunteers. The proposed actions have as priority the implementation of improvements in four areas: health, accessibility, thermal comfort and humanization of spaces. Over the last four years, the project has already carried out a number of actions, including the execution of projects in twelve houses and the implementation of reforms for improvements in four of them, with resources made available in two neighborhoods of the Metropolitan Region of Greater Vitória, Espírito Santo through pre-established partnerships and donations of entities, individuals and legal entities. The project presents an important integration with teaching and research, based on methodology strongly linked to public policies, in this case the Technical Assistance Law, providing impacts of different natures.
