This article deals with an investigation into the graphical apprehension of the informal urban space. Despite of architectural representation normally based on form, we seek to understand how architects can map informalities with diagrams. We analyze the diagrams of the architect Jorge Mário Jáuregui accomplished in his urban and architectural interventions in the slums of Rio de Janeiro. This inquiry is based on a table with seven characteristics derived from the Deleuzean philosophy on diagrams. In studying this diagrammatic mechanism, we hope to discuss ways of mapping the informal urban space committed to the emerging concrete reality and, thus, to understand its potential in the architectural design.
