The article presents sources of guidelines and recommendations that contribute to the development of projects that can meet the requisites that make the most intelligible and most appropriate architecture to users. It elaborates on normative as the NBR 9050, as principles of universal design, DeafSpace, the wayfinding, the issue of multisensory environments, and developed tool that evaluates the accessibility of public buildings. Aiming at the quality of the project and the purpose of architecture for everyday life based on Vitruvian principles. As a demonstration briefly presents the diagnosis and the adequacy propositions elaborated for the Rectory building of the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB) using the theoretical bases presented. The building in question was designed prior to the regulations and portrays the need to consider legal instruments in the early stages of project design.
