In Architecture and Urbanism (AU) professional training involves the consolidation of project backgroud and requires the (re) signification of the elements/problems derived from everyday reality and the cultivation of creativity. This finding shows the importance of fostering creativity in AU courses, a topic that has a direct impact on teaching-learning in the area. Built from a bibliographical study of teaching production in this field, this article presents an overview of the incentive to creativity in the academic environment, focusing on the types of techniques used by teachers. The research took as a universe the publications in the proceedings of the Encontros Nacionais de Ensino de Arquitetura (ENSEA - National Meetings of Teaching of Architecture) promoted by the Associação Brasileira de Ensino de Arquitetura (ABEA - Brazilian Association of Education of Architecture) published between 2001 and 2016. Starting from the documentary analysis, the text makes a brief diagnosis of the practices in this field , illustrated by some paradigm cases detected.
