The Built Heritage is an extremely enriching object of study, since it evokes the most varied sensations to those who are approaching: nostalgia, affection, memories and curiosity. One of several ways of arousing the interest in information in the architect m is the approximation to these objects as an an inexhaustible source of research. This article seeks to emphasize a discussion about the meanings of the historical patrimony for the memory, the history and the construction of academic knowledge, considering that the preservation of the historical heritage, has been object of worries of historians, architects and social scientists, among others scholars who approached this theme, becoming important not only as an object of study, but also as a production of significant historical knowledge for the collective memory of each society.
