The institute of transport and development policies (ITDP-Brazil) and the Rio Patrimony of Humanity Institute (IRPH) developed the Toolability Index to evaluate the quality of urban space in the pedestrian scale. In its most updated version (2.0) contains 6 categories with 15 indicators. The tool allows to evaluate the conditions of the urban space and to monitor the impact of qualification actions in the public space, besides informing to what extent these actions favor or not the displacements on foot. Its implementation promotes a new look at the urban environment, aiming to promote the quality of the routes from the point of view of the pedestrian and prioritize them. In this article, the results of the application of the index of roadability tool will be presented, with Jair de Andrade Av., Located in the municipality of Vila Velha-ES, as a cut. It is a research of an applied nature and a quantitative approach whose method was structured in three stages: Contextualization about public space and walkability, behavioral observation and tool application. The results reveal that the avenue, although it is a busy place, emphasizing mobility and the attractiveness of the place, presents deficiencies in relation to road safety and public safety. The analyzes make it possible to better understand the tool index of roadability and its adequacy in the evaluation of roadability, as well as to point out priority aspects of intervention in the urban space.
