| dc.description.abstract | RESUMO O espaço urbano da cidade de Santa Maria, RS, é composto por diversos fragmentos de arquiteturas de um passado recente, que se interligam através de ruas, praças e avenidas. É na área central que se pode encontrar um número maior destes exemplares, apesar de ser também ali, que se encontram cada vez mais descaracterizados, quando ainda se encontram. Convivem em um mesmo espaço urbano, edifícios de épocas diferentes e com tratamentos diferentes. Em uma mesma praça, pode-se ver o antigo teatro municipal, buscando uma valorização após sua suposta requalificação, enquanto o cinema, ao seu lado, sofre com o desprestígio, podendo ser descaracterizado justamente por quem deveria protegê-lo (a prefeitura municipal possui um projeto em que além de alterar sua feição, pretende alterar a sua função). Não muito longe dali, ainda há esperanças para o centro da cidade, pois alguns edifícios conseguem sobreviver à ação de “vândalos”. O antigo Banco Nacional do Comércio, projeto do arquiteto alemão Theo Wiedersphan, atual Caixa Econômica Federal, com feições ecléticas, sobreviveu a onda de contemporaneidade. Mas a própria praça, que interliga estas arquiteturas, é alvo das vontades da administração pública, sendo diversas vezes “reformada”, conforme a necessidade de votos para a próxima eleição. Além das principais ruas e avenidas, como a Rua do Acampamento e a Avenida Rio Branco, participantes da evolução urbana do município, que ainda preservam exemplares de arquitetura eclética e art déco. O objetivo deste artigo é de investigar como o espaço urbano consegue articular arquiteturas diferentes, sendo ele mesmo, um reflexo das vontades políticas da contemporaneidade. ABSTRACT The urban space of Santa Maria's city, RS, is composed by several frin the central area that one can find a larger number of these copies, in spite of being also there, that meet they each time more deprived of characteristics, when they still meet. They live together in a same urban space, buildings of different times and with different treatments. In a same square, it can see the old municipal theater, looking for a valorization after its supposed requalificacion, while the cinema, to its side, suffers with the disrepute, being able to be deprived of characteristics exactly by who would have to protect it (the prefecture possesses a project in that besides altering your feature, it intends to alter your function). Not very far away from there, there are still hopes to the downtown, because some buildings get to survive the action of " vandals ". The old Banco Nacional do Comércio, the german architect Theo Wiedersphan’s project, current Caixa Econômica Federal, with eclectic features, survived the contemporary wave. But the own square, that establish connection these architectures, it is objetive of the wills of the public administration, being several times " reformed ", according to the need of votes for the next election. Besides the main streets and avenues, as the Acampamento Street and the Avenue Rio Branco, participants of the urban evolution of the municipal district, that still preserve copies of eclectic architecture and art déco.
