A construção de um novo lugar social para a loucura: reflexões sobre reuso de uma instituição psiquiátrica em Natal/RN

Abstract

The crisis of the hospital-centric model since the late nineteenth century began to outline the paths of what would become the Psychiatric Reform throughout the world. In Brazil, the consolidation of this process was marked by the enactment of mental health laws and policies implemented 20 years ago, especially after the creation of the Psychosocial Care Network. The architecture creates a link with the psychiatric reform because it can be protagonist of the rupture with the manicomial space and the association of these services with the city. The objective of this article is to discuss these issues relating architecture, urbanism and the construction of more inclusive spaces, from a study done in a psychiatric hospital in Natal / RN.
